about

Nohmi is an initiative of pianist/composer Miran Noh. In 2017, the ensemble started as a trio with Miran Noh (Korea) on piano, Patricia Mancheño (Spain) on double bass and Auke de Vries (Netherlands) on drums.
The three of them met met at Codarts Conservatorium in the city of Rotterdam. In 2019, the quintet was formed with Claudio Jr. De Rosa (IT) on tenor saxophone and Daniel Clason (NL) on trumpet.

Meanwhile the band has been nominated for Leiden Jazz Award 2021, Grachten Festival Jazz Competition 2021, Erasmus Jazz Prize 2021 and Karel van Eerd Music Award 2021.

Bandleader Mirna Noh has studied both Jazz and Classical music. Most of here works are based on the classical impressionism era with use of timbre, orchestration, and progressive harmonic concepts by Ravel, Debussy and Prokofiev. Her compositional style is also influenced by jazz pianists like Bill Evans, Brad Mehldau and Shai Maestro. Strong motives and many layers disembogue into polyphonic pieces.

A Bird at the Edge is the debut of Nohmi. The album contains 8 tracks. In two compositions the quintet is accompanied by a string quartet and in Blooming Heart the original trio performs.
